Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe

Academic Universe provides access to the full text of national and international newspapers, magazines, wire services, and more. It also includes business, financial, and legal information, including laws, regulations, cases, and EU law. The non-English language news link includes news in French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Additional Sources for Reviews

Search Midcat using a SUBJECT search using the terms Book Reviews.  Also, reviews are published in a variety of places including newspapers and journals.  Consult the databases that index those types of resources using the other sections of this guide (Journals/Magazines; Journals/Magazines of the period; Newspapers).  For literary works, some editions reprint contemporary reviews along with the text of the work (i.e. critical editions). For example, see the critical heritage series in Midcat.

Searchable archive of hundreds of digitized journals published in the arts, humanities and social sciences from 1665 - 2000. PAO is searchable with the British Periodicals I & ll collection. Periodicals Index Online (PIO)

A database of millions of article citations published in the arts, humanities and social sciences, across more than 300 years, from their first issues to 1995 with some to 2000.  Includes journals in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, and other Western languages--with links to full text, when available. Formerly PCI.

• Indexes articles in 90 British and many American periodicals
• published from 1802 to 1906.

Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature

Indexes articles in approx. 375 leading general magazines (mainly popular literature).  Beginning with vol. 36 (March 1976) book reviews are listed at the end of the index (previously book reviews are listed under the subject of the book).  For earlier film reviews see Moving Picture Plays--Criticism (later under Motion Pictures).  See front matter for help with other types of works.
