PubMed Middlebury Students, Faculty and Staff only WebBridge enabled Some full text available

1950s-current. A major source for scholarly biomedical literature.

Tips:

  • Be sure to access PubMed from a library page or via the 'go' link [go/pubmed (on campus) or http://go.middlebury.edu/pubmed (off-campus)].  This will prompt PubMed to link its results to Middlebury collections and our interlibrary loan form.
  • For a more precise search, try the Advanced Search Form.  (This might prevent PubMed from linking its resuls to our collections.)
  • If you wish to search for a phrase, enter it without quotation marks so that PubMed's  Automatic Term Mapping (ATM) feature will be activated.  If the ATM does not produce useful results then instruct PubMed to bypass ATM for your phrase by enclosing it in quotation marks  " ".
  • PubMed automatically places the AND operator between your search terms. When you want to be sure the correct Boolean operator (AND, OR, NOT) is used, enter it in uppercase.
  • Truncation turns off ATM and the automatic addition of MeSH terms. For example, heart attack* will not prompt a search for the MeSH term Myocardial Infarction.
  • To focus your search by using controlled vocabulary, consult the MeSH Database.
  • To limit your search results to review articles, click on the "Review" tab on your search results page.
  • To limit your search results to articles about the history of medicine, click on the "Limits" tab under the search window and select "History of Medicine" in the "Subsets" window.
  • Want more tips?  See Searching PubMed and the PubMed Tutorial.
  • Shortcut = go/pubmed (on campus), http://go.middlebury.edu/pubmed (off-campus)
